More Zoo pics. See, Hannah, I do put something besides buildings on my blog......lol. Actually, I am saving the buildings for the next blog entries......Love you guys.

More pics from the Kuwait Zoo.

I am struggling on what to say for this set of pics. The location is the Kuwait Zoo. There were lots of animals and even some that I did not expect to see in a zoo of this size. The zoo is small but I could see that they had some construction going on around the outside areas. I am hoping that the construction will be them doing something to create natural habitats for the animals. Living conditions for the animals is poor according to todays standards, but I could see that they were doing they best that they could. What really bothered me was the way the animals were being teased by children and even some adults. And there were signs everywhere that asked people not to feed the animals and yet I saw people at almost every area throwing or feeding food to the animals. While our kids had never seen a zoo like this before, it brought back memories of what the Fort Worth Zoo was like back about 25 years ago. But there will be about 2 pages of pics from the zoo.

All of these pics will be of the Friday Market. That is Kuwait's equivalent of the Texas Trader's Village or a large flea market. The first pic on the left shows the nice man that runs the leather booth where we like to shop for coats. I would tell you his name, but I can't pronounce it or spell it, I am sorry. But he greets us like old friends each time we are there and always shows us the newest items he has on hand. If you look closely, just over his back, that is Vern trying on the Harley jacket, but he would not turn around......lol. The pic on the right is a shot showing his whole booth. Notice the guy in the direct center pushing the wheelbarrow. These are the guys that follow you around and if you agree to let them, they will carry all of your packages and push them around while you shop. Then they will follow you to your car and load it. Price ranges according to what all you buy, but generally about 500 fils to 1 KD. That is about 1.75 to 3.50 for the states......lol.




The first pic on the left just shows a general view of some of the furniture items on hand. Plus if you look close enough you can see to gentlemen dressed in traditional clothing walking away from us. The next photo shows cushions that are sold that can be put together to form a type of couch that sits on the ground. They are actually quite comfortable, but hard to get out of. Then there is a long shot down one of the roads that shows carpets hanging on racks. There is a whole section just for carpets under one of the giant roof structures and every type of carpet you could imagine. The last two photos show the way it looks as your are walking in. The area is almost laid out like a flower, with a central hub and then the large roofed areas spreading out around it. They also sell all sorts of household goods, clothing, perfume,....you name it they sell it. And yes, they even have the used and antique area in the back. The whole idea is that the large items like furniture, bedding, cabinetry, carpets and such, have a roofed area of their own and can take forever to get through. Then there are the areas of general chaos. But it is an experience to have if you ever come to visit. And don't forget to visit the animal area. They sell everything from doves, pigeons, chickens to lambs, lamas, and some camels. They even sell parrots, other exotic animals, fish, and some cats and dogs. One time when we went over they even had a small kangaroo like animal for sale, but they did not speak enough english and i don't speak enough arabic to find out what it was.
